Living In Parkdale
Despite long being considered by outsiders as gritty, which over time has only added to its appeal, Parkdale is home to charming locals, unique restaurants and a multicultural vibe like no other in the city.
In the early 1900s, the area was an upscale suburb. During this time, many older mansions (which still exist) converted to multi-unit buildings. Many of the residential streets are lined with mature trees, and the historic architecture still holds original features, like authentic gaslights.
The city of Toronto has worked hard to make the area a family friendly neighbourhood and you will see numerous parkettes sprinkled throughout the side streets with children playing in the summertime. Trendy shops, cafes, restaurants and bars line the popular Queen Street West, creating a booming scene for the locals, from art and music to food and street art culture.
